History and Goals

Recently, Taiwan studies has received significant attention in domestic academic circles and is a scholarly discipline possessing the greatest potential for research innovation and international promotion. At present, numerous research institutions and organizations for the study of Taiwan literature, history, and culture have been established both domestically and abroad. Aside from maintaining an emphasis on the study of literature and history, Taiwan studies at the College of Liberal Arts in National Taiwan University (NTU) also includes the development of diverse fields, such as linguistics, anthropology, music, drama, and art. Consequently, in July 2011, NTU approved the establishment of the Center for Taiwan Studies at the College of Liberal Arts to integrate various resources and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange in the field of Taiwan studies.
